TELL IT LIKE IT IS.
I read an interesting article on the Testosterone web
site recently. The article implored us to imagine what would happen if
bodybuilding magazines or supplement companies decided all of a sudden
to tell us the truth. Even though it was written as a funny article it
was full of............TRUTH.
Just imagine if the magazines did all of a sudden tell it like it is.

How long do you reckon these mags would stay on the market? Not only
that, but after only one issue they would have nothing else to write
about.
The biggest part of being honest has nothing to do with other people.
It has to do with how truthful you are to yourself. Lying to others is
rare, but people lie to themselves everyday. They do not remain true
to their core beliefs. And that's what is wrong with most mags out
there.
The Agony and The Ecstasy
I had an interesting week recently which began on
Easter Monday. My son and I went out to play golf at our local course.
On the fifth I hit that ball into the cup in one shot! A HOLE IN
ONE!!! Many golfers play all their lives and never get one. This
was the second of my illustrious golfing career. My son, who is seven,
has just started playing golf. He didn't seem to think it was any big
deal. I'm lucky there were other golfers at the tee who witnessed my
milestone and lauded me with all the necessary back slapping and high
five's that should go with a hole in one. I had to get on with my game
after a few moments and face the harsh reality that I was not a cloned
Tiger Woods, and that the rest of my game that day could be described
at best as mediocre.
By now you should be realizing that this is the ecstasy part of the
tale.
The following Monday morning I was at the gym squatting . I had gone
through a few warm up sets. I was into my first work set at 140kg when
on my 6th rep I felt as if a knife had been plunged deep into my left
side just above the buttocks. After somehow racking the weight, I fell
onto the floor where I stayed for quite a while. As I lay there I
thought about how this was my first major injury in many years - and
what caused it. Funnily enough, I was also worried that I would not be
able to swing a golf club the following weekend!
It has been over a week since my injury. My back is better, but
definitely not fully recovered. The injury was, however, a wake up
call. I have cut back a lot of my weights and started to concentrate
more on good form rather than just pushing heavy weight. I'm
experiencing more soreness now and soreness that is deep in the
targeted muscle.
I'm still not sure what caused my injury. But I am prepared to accept
responsibilty for it. As far as I'm concerned, 99% of gym injuries are
a result of poor form. I'm lucky I'm back in the gym with no
significant time lost - and no significant injury.
That was my week. I must say though, THE HOLE IN ONE made
everything else pale into insignificance!!

INBA News
The INBA have a very exciting 2001 developing. After being
involved in two major INBA contests last year (The Australian
Championships and The Natural Olympia), and promoting the INBA South
Australian Titles, I am looking forward to this year's contest. The
INBA had a phenomenal year in 2000. The INBA Australian Titles was the
biggest contest seen in Australian with over 150 competitors. This was
followed up by The Natural Olympia with over 120 competitors from
around the world. I felt privileged to be at these shows as it opened
my eyes to the professionalism of The INBA.
The INBA could be
excused for being satisfied with this exceptional achievement but
believe me we are not. The SA contest was the smallest in the country.
We have room for lots of improvement here. The INBA has set a target
of 200 competitors for this years Nationals. This should be attainable
with the incentive of a trip to Hawaii for the Australian team for The
Natural Olympia.
This year The INBA
SA Titles will be moving to a new venue - the Norwood Concert Hall on
The Parade at Norwood. There is plenty of handy parking and most
importantly, an abundance of eateries at which to sample after the
contest. This year I hope to send more competitors to the Nationals.
However, this is really dependent on "bums on seats", so
please encourage as many people as you can to attend this year's show.
After witnessing the
enormous crowd appeal at last year's INBA Australian Titles, I will be
introducing a couples class at the INBA SA Titles. Couples used to be
a feature at all contests in the past until it slowly faded from the
scene. At INBA contests couples are judged only on routine, so the
biggest or most cut don't necessarily win. A couples routine should be
entertaining and the two physiques should complement each other.
Themes and props are encouraged but not necessary.
After some concerns
about entrance fees last year, I have dropped them for this yea'rs
show to $20:00. Entry for competitors is free - all you have to be is
an INBA Member. The INBA will be awarding a plaque to the best
performing State Team. Each State team will be judged on placings,
appearance (team uniform etc), and conduct on and off the stage. As
State Promoter, I have set a goal to win this plaque for SA.
During the year INBA
asked its members for feedback and opinion on banned substances like
Dhea, androstendione etc. From the response it was clear INBA members
wanted strong leadership and rigid rules. INBA members want to feel
secure that the goal posts won't get changed and that they are
protected from cheats using any loop holes in the rules.

Last year's INBA Australian and Natural Olympia winner, Danny Chau,
has received a major sponsorship from American supplement company,
MRM. Danny will be featured in advertising and promotional work around
the country. It's great to see supplement companies giving major
contracts to Natural athletes, especially as it's these athletes who
are the major users of their products.
Australian Muscle
will be offering a sponsorship to the overall male and female at this
year's INBA South Australian Titles.
Flex Wheeler, who
announced in late March he was retiring to pursue other avenues in the
sport , said in early April he might be changing his mind. "I've
been approached by a company to represent them, and although I don't
have to compete in the Mr. Olympia, they would like me to," said
Wheeler. He'll make his final decision at the Night of Champions on
May 19 in New York, where he's scheduled to hold a press conference.
Wheeler said he's begun Olympia preparations, just in case he decides
to put a permanent halt to his retirement plans.
Big, bad Marcus Ruhl, who suffered a thigh injury during a
guest-posing stint that forced him to miss the early-season shows,
headlines a large list of contestants competing at the Toronto Pro
Invitational on May 12 and the Night of Champions in New York on May
19. Rumors have been flying regarding the German Giant, last season's
Toronto champ and runner-up to Jay Cutler at the NOC. One week he's
in, the next week he's still not ready to go. So at this point his
entry is not definite.

Australian BB Star Christine Envall (3-time Ms.Australia)
recently won her IFBB Pro card at the amateur IFBB division at the
recent Australian Pro Show. Other titles Christine won the Overall
NABBA Ms World in 1997, 1998 and 2000!
Christine will be making her Pro Debut at the Jan Tana and three weeks
after that will compete at the Women's Strength Extravaganza Pro
show.Christine is known around the world as one of the most muscular
women for her height. She is 5'3" and competes around 160lb.

Milos Sarcev, the man who is trying to compile a record of
performing in 100 IFBB pro competitions (he's done 68 so far), will be
making his first appearance onstage in Toronto since his near-death
experience last year.
