Mr Olympia Controversy
One week after the 2001 Mr Olympia, the IFBB anounced that two athletes had tested positive for diuretics and would be disqualified from the 2001 Mr Olympia. This is how it was reported in Flexonline.com;
"It has now been confirmed that Jay Cutler, 2001 Mr. Olympia runner-up, and Markus Ruhl, 14th at the O, have been informed by the IFBB that their urine samples tested positive for banned diuretics. IFBB rules state that individuals whose samples test positive as a result of the contest's mandatory diuretic test will lose their placing and prize money and that all those athletes finishing below them will subsequently move up in prize money and placings. Thus, as a result of this ruling, Cutler would forfeit his second place spot, his $60,000 paycheck and qualification for the 2002 Mr. Olympia, and Melvin Anthony (originally placed 11th at the O) would move up to 10th and be awarded $10,000 in prize money (he originally received zilch), and, of course, gain qualification for the 2002 Mr. Olympia. However, we understand that Cutler is at this time seeking legal guidance in an effort to have the drug test result overturned. We'll keep you posted on developments."
Barely one week later, the IFBB released this official press release;
"Subsequent to the mandatory dug tests that took place at the Olympia Weekend of October 26/27, 2001, the IFBB was informed that two samples had tested positive for banned diuretics.
As a result of this information, the IFBB took the initiative to scrupulously examine the drug-testing procedures that took place at and around the 2001 Olympia Weekend. After completing this investigation, the IFBB is confident that each and every one of the steps called for in the protocol of drug testing were meticulously followed at the event itself. However, as part of this investigation, it was discovered that the world-renowned laboratory employed by the IFBB is no longer designated as an official accredited lab by the International Olympic Committee. When the IFBB commenced its relationship with this highly reputable lab several years ago it was an IOC-accredited lab.
As the IFBB's Doping Control Policy calls for all testing to be undertaken by an IOC-accredited lab, the IFBB, committed to following the highest ethical standards, has no option but to declare the drug testing results from the 2001 Olympia Weekend null and void. Those athletes who had been informed that they had tested positive, Jay Cutler and Markus Ruhl, will keep their original 2001 Mr. Olympia placings of second and 14th, respectfully, and retain all relevant medals, privileges and prize money applicable to their placings.
We consider this decision to be one based on a pure technicality and in no way reflects on the integrity of the lab used by the IFBB, nor does it question the testing procedure followed by the IFBB at the 2001 Olympia Weekend. The IFBB is committed to following its official federation guidelines and bylaws to the letter. As a result, the IFBB officially announces that all future IFBB drug testing will be carried out under the auspices of an IOC-accredited lab to be determined before the commencement of the 2002 season.
With this decision, the IFBB reaffirms its strong commitment to the Olympic ideal of unity through sport, and fair and balanced treatment of all athletes."
I like the last line, I'm sure Melvin Anthony thinks it's fair. He went from nothing to US$10,000 and qualification to nothing again even
though the IFBB admits that there was nothing wrong with the tests.
Australia Dominates The INBA Natural Olympia!
The Natural Olympia in Hawaii on the 3rd and 4th of November was a huge success for Australia. Adelaides Kim Knot won the overall Ms Physique and the Professional classses, and Keith Bullock from Victoria won the Men's Professional class. Both Athletes followed this up with wins in the INBA Natural World Cup in California a week later. Adelaide's Joel Ramintas placed fourth in the Open Short Class (arguably the toughest class with the overall winner coming from here). Joel was disappointed, but this is a terrific achievement in his first International contest. Joel had a terrific year, winning the ANB Australian Short Class and the INBA Australian Short Class and Overall Titles. Next years INBA Natural Olympia will again be held in Hawaii.

The ingredient profile can be divided into three macronutritional groups - protein, carbohydrates and fats. The proteins used are all instantised for easy mixing and bioavailability.
Microfiltered Isolate yields the highest percentage of proteins per gram over all protein powders; it also has the highest bioavailability and is virtually lactose free.
Microfiltered WPC is the best "bang for your buck" protein, low in fat and carbohydrates and high in Glutamine, Di and Tripeptides and Oligopeptides.
Milk protein solids are calcium enriched and are used in very small amounts to enhance the palatability of the product.
The carbohydrate base is predominantly long chain polymers with small amounts of medium and short chain polymers to enable steady supply of glycogen to muscles for fuel and to help the flow of amino acids and proteins into the cell membrane for synthesis and repair of damaged tissue.
The inclusion of essential fatty acids (EFAs) and medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) is of importance to the nutrient balance of P40, as dietary restraints often limit "good" fat intake for most consumers.
The use of European Icecream flavours has given P40 a fantastic taste in milk or water.
P40 mixes instantly with a spoon - no blender required. The formulation has a creamy consistency with reduced frothing.

Tribuplex by MRM
|
|

|
TribuPlex is the most potent Tribulus complex available. This complex is based upon a base of Tribulus Terrestris with an unheard of 70% saponins. Tribulus Terrestris has been used for centuries in Europe to enhance libido and performance by increasing Testosterone naturally. This complex is further complimented by a blend of furostanol rich concentrated extracts of Dioscorea and Trigonella fornum. European studies have shown these steroidal saponins to evoke dramatic effects upon anabolic hormone production. To round out this unique formula, Rhodiola rosea has been added to increase work performance and decrease fatigue.

Essential
reading for those thinking of using anabolic steroids. This book
is also a valuable guide and reference source for all workers
dealing with steroid problems. This
book describes the formation of steroids and their effects in
the human body. It informs the athlete of the correct technique
for injection and how to design a program. It poses all the
questions that need to be answered before the prospective user
begins a course, and describes likely side effects. There is
also a list of frequently asked questions, and their answers, as
well as a dicussion of other drugs used in association with
steroids. This
book was written to help all understand these substances, so
that better results can be achieved with lower steroid doses,
and therefore with minimum side effects. Editors
Note: While I don't condone the use of steroids, I am a firm
believer in these sort of books. People will continue to use
steroids regards of their legal status and should have access to
some type of guides to reduce possible side effects. This book
is mainly aimed at the person who is thinking of using steroids.
Who knows, after reading it you may change your mind. If you

IFBB JUDGE ASSAULTED BY ANGRY HUBBY IN HUNGARY
Carlo Teani, IFBB official and head judge at the Hungarian Fitness Championship on November 10, took a punch and then some from Remi Bruyninga, husband of fitness pro Melissa Frabbiele. The physical confrontation occurred shortly after the conclusion of the contest, where longtime competitor Frabbiele took sixth place. According to witnesses, an enraged Bruyninga approached Teani seeking justification of his wife's callouts, then suddenly punched the judge. No arrests were made, but Frabbiele has reportedly announced her retirement from the sport.

RONNIE COLEMAN, OTHER AMERICANS, THREATENED IN NEW ZEALAND
In a disturbing sign of the times, anonymous callers claiming to be members of a Muslim faction in New Zealand issued threats to American bodybuilders, including Ronnie Coleman and Chris Cormier, scheduled to compete at the New Zealand Grand Prix in Wellington on November 10. Security was beefed up at the venue, the Michael Fowler Centre, as the Kiwis took every possible precaution to secure the safety of the U.S. bodybuilders. When told of the threats by promoter Boris Borodin, the IFBB pros didn't flinch and eagerly took the stage, unfazed. The threats, likely a hoax, didn't affect the contest at all, as Coleman won a spirited competition against his pal Cormier. Borodin and Wellington officials received praise from the Americans for their efforts in caring for the safety of the visitors while also putting on a terrific show.
KIWIS BUST MR. OLYMPIA'S MOVEABLE FEAST
While he won the contest, Ronnie Coleman had less luck with New Zealand's customs officials, who confiscated Mr. Olympia's stash after landing in Aukland. The stash? Food, and plenty of it. Bringing meats and other perishables into New Zealand is a big no-no, and Coleman had his goodies confiscated and was fined $250 by officials. According to local press, the contraband was "mainly meat and potatoes."
Steve Neece - Dead!
On October 21, 2001 Steve Neece a photographer / writer for MuscleMag International died of a heart attack. He was 56 years old. He will be missed by his fans and friends. A service was held in his memory on Thursday November 8, 2001 at Forest Lawn in Covina, California. Dasha, his daughter, read his obituary.
I was a fan of Steve's column in Musclemag where he showcased a lot of
upcoming bodybuilders and featured less prominent competitons.
