The INBA Australian Titles Oct 20th, Melbourne
This was a huge show with 147 competitors from all over the country. The SA team consisted of 7 competitors, Joel Ramintas (Open Short), Paul Wachel (Open Tall), Tore Ricci (Intermediate), Gino Sergi (Open Short), Kim Knot (Ms Physique), Sue Huxtable (Figure), and Esther Pedisic (Ms Fitness). The team looked great in tracksuits supplied by Australian Muscle. This year the INBA had the inaugural Best State Team award and I am proud to say South Australia won. This award was judged on team presentation, success of the state titles, team unity and leadership. That is not all though, Joel Ramintas and Kim Knot won the Overall Mr and Ms Australia Titles. Both are off to represent Australia in the INBA Natural Olympia in Hawaii on the 3rd and 4th of November. While on stage, with camera flashes blinding us, Joel asked me if the judges had got it right? Believe me they did Joel, INBA MR Australia. Paul Wachel also had a successful competition, taking home 2nd in the Open Tall Class. All the other competitors just missed out on placings.
The INBA Australia was one of the best run competitions I have attended and judged. It ran on time all day and great effort was taken to give it the prestige it deserved. The competitors had food and drinks supplied, as did the judges. At the night show, each state team was introduced on stage and the National Anthem was sung. The INBA again was the strongest federation in Australia with the biggest state shows (and crowds) and the biggest national championships. The INBA will also have the largest National team with 40 competitors representing Australia at the Natural Olympia in Hawaii.

Bad Girls Guest Appearance

NABBA Universe 7th Oct. London
Like at the Australian Titles 2 weeks before, South Australians, again were the best of the Aussies at the Universe Titles. Teri Roberts finally achieved her goal by winning the Universe Figure Title. Teri looked great and I personally am so happy for her, truly a deserving winner. Nick Jones went to London with high expectations but was crushed by some dubious judging decisions which left him in sixth place. Stella Dynan placed 5th in the Figure and Overall Mr Australia, Kym Johncock was 6th in the Masters. Big Keith Long from Australian Muscle failed to place in the Open Medium Tall class but thoroughly enjoyed the experience of competing in the largest amateur show in the world.
What a great year for South Australia in all federations.

Heart Disease Was the Main Cause of Mentzer Deaths
According to official autopsy reports from the Los Angeles County Corner's Office, the immediate cause of death in the cases of both Mike and Ray Mentzer was severe arteriosclerosis aggravated by extensive prescription drug intake. In the opinion of the deputy medical examiner, in both cases the "autopsy shows severe atherosclerotic heart disease, with previous myocardial infarction. Toxicology studies show a fatal blood concentration of morphine, as well as other medications." Chronic kidney failure was also listed as a significant condition on Ray's autopsy report.
Mike, 49, was found dead by Ray on Sunday morning, June 10, in the residence they shared near Rolling Hills, California. Two days later Ray, 47, was also found dead at the home.

WHAT'S NEW?

 ECDY-20 by MRM

ECDY-20™ is a polyhydroxylated sterolic invertebrate growth hormone naturally derived from plants. It is a NATURAL, non-hormonal, anabolic supplement. The active anabolic ingredient in ECDY-20™ is the known steroid, 20-hydroxyecdysone. This remarkable plant extract from Rhaponticum carthamoides has been proven in numerous clinical studies to be more anabolic than methandrostenolone (Dianabol), with no androgenic or other undesirable side effects.
ECDY-20™ activity dramatically increases nitrogen retention as well as protein synthesis at the cellular level. To maximize the effects of ECDY-20™, it is recommend that you increase your daily protein intake to 2.0-2.5 g/kg body weight while using this nutritional supplement. Clinical investigations have reported that increased nitrogen retention along with intense weight training will stimulate muscle growth and burn fat more effectively (up to 20 times) than weight training alone.
20-Hydroxyecdysone has been clinically reported to produce significant anabolic (muscle growth) effects in elite athletes while also increasing strength and endurance. It is also indicated that 20-hydroxyecdysone prevents the breakdown of hard-earned muscle mass of athletes during heavy lifting and intense workouts. This is the same exact ingredient that the former Soviet Union decided to use as a way to enhance their athlete's performances while beating the drug tests.

Former Mr. Universe Bertil Fox's attempt to appeal his conviction and death sentence has been rejected by the privy council in London, according to a decision handed down on October 2. Fox, found guilty for the double murders of Leyoca Brown and her mother Violet Browne on the Caribbean Island of St. Kitts on September 30, 1997, received a sentence of death by hanging on May 22, 1998. The five-member privy council panel who concluded that there were no grounds to reverse the conviction of Fox. Hidden in the document, however, is a new argument by Fox's attorney that anabolic steroids could have played a part in Fox's behavior. Four of the five judges rejected that claim, calling it "irrelevant," with one judge dissenting, saying that the steroid argument should be left open for Fox to petition to a local court.

In his thirteenth Olympia Shawn Ray (for the twelfth time) finished in the top five, although it seemed this time around he was not as sharp as he has been in the past.

After a "will-he won't -he" run-in to the contest saga that saw him eventually fined $25,000 for failing to sign an Olympia contract, Levrone came into the event somewhat smaller than usual, particularly in the thighs.

Ronnie Coleman got the biggest fright of his Olympia tenure thanks to a massive and shredded Jay Cutler. Compounding Cutler's threat was Ronnie's less-than-100 percent condition: He was holding water with his stomach distended and his front thighs smooth, hence, the champ lost the first two rounds (muscularity and symmetry) by a combined six-point margin. Improved by evening time, Ronnie then won the last two rounds (posing and posedown) by a combined margin of ten points, which sealed his fourth title by a too-close-for-comfort four points. At the end of the day, even Ronnie thought he had lost.
