Questions Answered
Q: I was at a health food store and the guy
there said if I take too much protein I'll get PKU. What is PKU
and how much protein causes this?
A:Wow. It amazes me how misinformed some people are. You go to a
"health food" store and you get advice like this. That is scary.
The problem here is that you would assume that a person dispensing
nutritional advice at a health food store would know a little
about what he is talking about.
Protein intake has nothing to do with PKU whatsoever. Nothing you
could ever eat would cause you to get PKU. PKU is an inherited
disorder resulting from a deficiency of an enzyme called
phenylalanine hydroxylase which helps to process protein. Without
this enzyme, there is a buildup in the blood of an amino acid
phenylalanine.
A child may be born with PKU only if both parents carry the
recessive gene for the disorder. Every state requires that
newborns be given a PKU screening blood test, and those that test
positive are placed on a special diet within 10 days after birth.
You know if you have PKU.
The little prick to draw blood given on the bottom of every
newborn's foot is the PKU test. Although I was told this was the
government actually inserting a minuscule computer chip to keep
track of people. I have my reservations about this. Hey, it sounds
good anyway.
This is just another example of how you just can't trust the
information you're getting out there. Here is a person in a
position where people are actively seeking advice from them and
they don't have a clue.
Q:I like to mix 1 or 2 servings of Whey
Protein with my oats and then microwave it for 1.5 minutes. Am I
damaging the protein when I do This?
A:Heat does affect protein. It causes a denaturing effect by
cross-linking the protein bonds. I would recommend that you add
the protein powder after you microwave your oatmeal. Whey is very
delicate. If you expose it to too much heat then you wind up with
a protein that is virtually useless.
Q: I've always heard that your body can only use about 25 to 30
grams of protein at a time. Is this true?
A:It's not true at all. I have no idea where this ridiculous
number came from, but it's absolutely baseless and has no
scientific support. It has kind of hung around the "duh" nutrition
circles for some time like gum on your shoe. This is an excellent
case of ignorance breeding ignorance. Where does it stop? I'll
tell you - it stops here!
Take a moment to think about the protein situation. Aside from
water, the next most abundant element that your body is made of is
protein. Also, your body is continually regenerating every cell,
muscle, bone, skin, etc. So your body consists of newly
regenerated cells about every 4 months. This would not be remotely
possible if you could only utilize 30 grams of protein at a time.
Another thing you must understand, weight training dramatically
increases your body's need for protein. Muscle tissue is built
from protein. Muscle is protein and protein is muscle. To build
muscle you must supply an abundant amount of protein.
Also, the more efficient the protein you feed your body the more
of that protein it will be able to utilize at any one feeding.
This is the primary bases in the design of Whey Protein. It's
designed so that your body uses it more efficiently and
effectively so you build muscle faster and more efficiently.
Another thing that must be taken into consideration is the amount
of muscle you have. The bigger you are the more protein you will
need. That's common sense.
Limit yourself to 25 to 30 grams of protein per meal and you might
just maintain enough muscle mass for a serious game of badminton.

Q: Does smoking effect my results from
bodybuilding Training?
A: People who smoke do not like to be reminded of how toxic their
habit really is. People who commit suicide by turning on their car
and breathing in the exhaust fumes die in about 20-minutes. The
same stuff that comes out of your car also comes out of
cigarettes. Sucking on a cigarette will cause the same suicidal
effect; it just takes about 20-years, not 20-minutes to kill you.
That's all I'm going devote to this stupid question.
Q: I've heard that creatine causes muscle
cramping. How can you prevent this when taking creatine?
A: Creatine does not cause muscle cramping. Here, I'll say that
again. Creatine does not cause muscle cramping.
Contrary to what has been reported by the inept, ignorant and
irresponsible media, supplementing with creatine does not cause an
increase in muscle cramping. This is simply a fabrication. Here's
how the ignorant reporters see this issue. If a football player is
taking creating and gets a muscle cramp it's because he's taking
creatine. If a football player is not taking creatine and gets a
muscle cramp it's just a typical muscle cramp.
To back this statement with research, ". . . in controlled studies
the evidence shows that creatine supplementation does not cause
muscular dysfunction and/or complication in healthy people(1,2) or
patients with various neuromuscular diseases(3). In fact, one
recent study went so far as attempting to induce cramping in
athletes by exercising them to varying degrees of dehydration(27).
No differences were reported between those taking the creatine or
the placebo, demonstrating no greater incidence of cramping
associated with creatine use even under various dehydrated
states.(4)"
Even when they tried to induce cramping through deliberate
dehydration, the incidence of muscular cramping was no higher in
those supplementing with creatine than those taking a placebo.
Once again it just goes to show how misinformed not only the
public is but also those that are feeding the public this
misinformation.

Q: Can you tell me what HPLC stands for and what it means? I see
it on all of your supplements.
A: HPLC stands for High Performance Liquid Chromatography. HPLC is
a state-of-the-art analytical testing procedure that has multiple
applications including separation, identification, purification,
and quantification of various compounds.
HPLC is considered the "test of tests" when it comes to product
analysis in the scientific community.
Many companies use HPLC extensively on all their supplements from
pre-production to validate the potency and purity of the raw
materials used, to completed product specification verification.
This ensures you that the quality of supplements are the highest
they can possibly be. HPLC testing is expensive and does adds cost
to the final product.

Hints To Lose Fat & Tone Muscle
Focus on daily behavior as
opposed to results.
No Carbohydrates after 6pm (rice, potatoes,pasta, bread, etc.)

Do 20-30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise 2-4 times per week.
Drink 4 litres of water per day minimum.
Eat your lean body weight in grams of protein daily.
Eat every 3 hours. This keeps your metabolism going in order to
burn fat and calories.
Prepare your meals ahead of time so they are ready when it's
time to eat.
Eat before you get hungry. This keeps you from getting hungry
and overeating.
Take Sundays off as your FREE day.
Don't eat anything that has more than 20% of its total calories
derived from fat.
Take glutamine with whey protein.
Eating Tips
Eat 4-5 meals per day. Space your meals 3 hours apart.
Three of the meals must contain (1) protein, (1) carbohydrate
and (1) vegetable from charts below
The other 1-2 meals: You may use meal replacement shakes
No Carbohydrates after____pm. - Specify your time 4 hours before
bedtime.
One serving of Carbohydrates equal the size of your clenched
fist.
One serving of Protein equals the size of your flat hand.

INBA SA Natural Physique Titles 2nd Oct

It's that time of year again when you seriously
have to start planning your competition aspirations. This years
INBA SA Titles will be held on Sunday the 2nd of October at the
Norwood Concert Hall. I'm sure all you past competitors agree
that the Norwood venue is a fantastic one.
Every year since it's inception the INBA SA Titles have grown in
competitors over the previous year. I anticipate this year will
be no exception, and I am fully expecting over 40 competitors.
With all the inquiries I have so far had, this should be easily
accomplished.
Everything will basically be kept exactly the same as last year.
Entry for competitors will again be free as long as you are a
paid up INBA member. I have included a membership form with this
letter. The sooner you become a member, the sooner you reap the
rewards with INBA newsletters sent out regularly. Also by
joining now you can spread out some of the costs involved with
getting ready for the show. The main reason though, INBA members
will receive a 10% discount on all purchases at Australian
Muscle. This again can help off set those costs.

Novice Competitors
If you are a first time competitor and are unsure of how an INBA

years huge show is available on two DVD's, Prejudging and show.
The pre judging DVD is a must for all first time competitors.

who are unsure of what happens at a show or for even experienced

New Classes
This years show is set to be a beauty with a number of new
classes being introduced,
Men's Masters O'50 years
Sports Model. Sport Model Contests bring a new level of
femininity into female sport – a type of 'Model with muscles'.
As such we are looking for a girl who projects beauty and shape.
We are not looking for the musculature of a bodybuilder or the
low body fat level of a marathon runner. We want to choose a
balanced physique. A physique which would be achievable from
genetics or from cross training. The winner should fit your
ideal of what will make others envious of a fitness lifestyle.
The Sports Model consists of three rounds. A Bikini round,
Fitness/Workout round and a Dress round - similar to the Ms
Fitness protocol So what is the "look" we want? A cross between
a Ms Fitness competitor and a bikini model without the routine.
INBA Pro Division. This year I will be incorporating a
Pro Class. This class is open to any past or present INBA
Australian Title holders. First prize will be a minimum of
$1000:00 cash with cash prizes for all place getters. Last years
Overall INBA Mr Australia and Natural Mr Olympia winner Warren
Clampitt has already accepted an invitation to compete. I am
confident that I will have at least 3 INBA Pros competing. This
class alone will be worth coming to see.

Once again, Australian Muscle will give away two 12 month
supplement sponsorships to 2 athletes at this years show. In
the past, this prize has been awarded to the overall male and
female winner. This year, all the class winners will be
eligible, not just the overall winners. One male and one
female athlete will win. The prize will be awarded on total
presentation, potential, etc, so everyone will have a chance
to win. The value of each sponsorship is $1200:00.
Team To The Australia.
A team will be selected to represent South Australia at the
Australian Titles on the 29th of October. This team will have
their accommodation and airfare paid for. They will also
receive a team jacket. The team selected will the class
winners that the judging panel deem will have the most
potential for success. In the past I sent usually two males
and two females. All this cost money obviously, but if there
is a big crowd on the night, then potentially I will be able
to afford to send more.
The qualification for the Australian Titles this year is all
top 3 place getters in every division.. So if you place in the
top 3 you have automatic qualification to the Australian
Titles and are eligible to compete. If you choose to go, you
can get a team jacket at wholesale cost and will be considered
as a part of the SA Team.

News...
Very interesting about the pigs orgasm. I have even better
news for you, you don't need to turn into a pig to experience
30min orgasms... I have been practicing a Yoga technique for
the past 5 or 6 years that enables me to experience the
orgasmic state for up to an hour at time. It is all about
using the breath, there are several books written on the
subject, and it takes an incredable amount of decipline,
however it is more than worth it. I would go as far as say
that it is more than 5 x better than the normal male ogansm,
and you dont' ejaculate, so you don't loose all that Vital
energy.
Also did you know that every time a male ejaculates, he looses
as much energy as woman when she is having her menstral
cycle.. Very interesting I think....

doing a 302.5kg deadlift. Paul is currently weighing in at
118kgs and looks as hard as nails. Based on Pauls awesome
performance in the gym you can rest assured that his assault on
the Overall Mr Australia Title is right on track.

Musclemania Controversy
Last years Musclemania Worlds Pro
Winner, Komang Arnawa has still not been paid his prize money.
Komang who is Balinese, but lives in WA won the show
convincingly but has still not been paid his prize money. Beats
me how federations and promoters can keep doing this and that
competitors keep on competing with them.
Speaking of Komang, this guy
has a great physique. Komang has only entered a handful of
contest but has quickly established himself as one of the worlds
best. Hopefully Komang will be competing on the Australian
Natural circuit later on this year.

Brrrm, brrrm
I was on a bodybuilding forum the other day, and we were
talking about Lee Priest winning the Australian Grand Prix, when a
bright spark called Mandy, interjected by saying we were all wrong
because Fernando Alonso won. "I know coz I was there", she
emphasised.
