2007 Max's INBA SA Physique &
Figure Titles. October 14th
This years INBA SA Titles were a beauty! For the 2nd year in a row, the
show was a sellout! Nearly 1000 people filled the Norwood Concert Hall to
Capacity. There were plenty of highlights on the night including a few non
bodybuilding ones.
For the first time, Nick Jones emceed the event. Nick
did a fantastic job and I thank you for letting me enjoy the show from the
seats for the first time in years.

The show was opened by a first in Australian bodybuilding. Live band
Freeway opened the show with a great rendition of the Hunters & Collectors
song, Holy Grail. Everyone in the audience were taken by surprise when the
curtains were peeled back to reveal a live band. Freeway continued to
entertain the large crowd at the half time interval with a six song set
that proved to be a huge hit.

After the intermission, Australia's strongest man, Ben
Maddern attempted an Australian record by trying to lift a 200kg stone.
Try as he might though, Ben could not get the stone up but he definitely
gave it a red hot crack with 2 attempts to lift the huge stone, but it was
not to be as a disappointed and bloodied Ben left the stage.

But this was a bodybuilding contest and what a show it
was, 59 competitors made this years show the best quality in it's 8 year
history. Every class was filled with excellent competitors.
The Men's Teenage started the night off with a bang. A
ripped Ben Wortley finally emerged as the winner over a sensational
Richard Pham with Luke Tsoutsouras in 3rd. Ben also won the Most Muscular
award and Richard the Most Potential.

Thirteen competitors filled the stage for the Men's
Novice class and after a torrid judging, massive Glenn Gattellaro emerged
as the winner from a surprised Steven Gaertner and Jason Tabuena. Glenn
displayed muscle size and maturity way beyond his 22 years and has a great
future in natural bodybuilding.

The Women's Novice class was next with a sensational Janere
Reid taking the win over Jaslyn Hewitt, and Janina Tregambe. Jaslyn also won
the Most Potential award. Unless you've been living under a rock, most of
you would be aware that Jaslyn is apparently the sister of a famous tennis
player. This attracted huge media interest and Jaslyn was featured in the
media across the country, from newspapers to the television. Jaslyn bought
more media attention to the INBA in 2 weeks than I've been able to generate
in the past 8 years combined.

Isaac Hall won the Open Tall sparking comments that he
will be "the next Paul Wachtel". A big call considering Paul won the World

it. Eric Cartwright from Darwin and Peter Kucharski rounded out the Field.

2007 INBA Whyalla Titles.
20th October.
The INBA bodybuilding circus moved to Whyalla on the 20th of October. 22
competitors made their way to the Steel City and were treated to a great
show. Uno and Kat Riis-Olsen really looked after everyone, even feeding
them all after the show at the local hotel.
This years contest was held at the magnificent Middleback Theatre and
nearly 200 locals and friends made for a great Atmosphere. Novice
sensations Glenn Gattallero and Vicki Sauerwald were crowned the Overall
Whyalla champions. I have to make a special mention about Andrew
Roberts. Andrew did not place at the SA Titles the week before but made
the trip to Whyalla vowing to improve, and improve he did by placing 2nd
to Glenn. The improvement Robert made in only 6 days was nothing short
of sensational, well done mate. Newly crowned INBA Mr South Australia,
Carlos Azevedo made the trip to guest pose and stunned the crowd with
his massive physique and flawless routine.
The Whyalla Titles are only in their 2nd year but have already
established itself firmly in the INBA calendar and Uno and Kat aim to
make it even bigger next year.

2007 INBA Australian Titles.
27th October.
Having just returned from the INBA Australia, I'm trying to reflect on a
sensational show and will try to bring you some of the highlights.
SA did well bringing back 3 titles and a number of trophies.
Glenn Gattallero continued on his way with a 2nd in the Novice. While
disappointed, Glenn has had a sensational few weeks winning or placing
no lower than 2nd in 5 contests around the country. Andrew Roberts
continued his sensational improvement. Andrew did not place at the SA,
got 2nd in Whyalla, and in dramatic fashion, WON the Australian
Intermediate Title. Truly a fairy tale story and the best winner on the
night. Mate, we could not be happier for you, and you are destined for
even bigger and better things in the future.
Dayni Baker-Minchinton was 2nd in the Intermediate Figure. Carlos
Azevedo was 2nd in the Men's Master O'40 and Paul Anderton was 4th. Ian
Bowden secured 3rd in the Men's Masters O'50 in one of the nights
toughest classes.
Vicki Sauerwald was our other winner in the Women's Novice Figure. Vicki
was reluctant to go to the Nationals, but after some prompting went. Sonia
Merritt was 2nd in the Open Figure and was unlucky not to win. Amelia Giannopoulos
placed 9th in a very tough Sport Model division.
Joel Ramintas dominated the Men's Open Short Class with a physique that
was awe inspiring. Joel has made incredible improvements to his
physique, bringing up his hamstrings and quads to world class levels. In
the overall though, the Ramintas juggernaut came to a sudden stop when
he came up against Queenslander, Trevor Huni. In a split decision,
Trevor was crowned the Overall Mr Australia.
Other South Australians to make the trip to Canberra were Isaac Hall,
Steven Gaertner, and Adam Barboza and while not placing in the top 3,
were solidly in their classes.

G'day Kim,
I went to the SA show on Sunday and thought it was a great night. I
congratulate you, Nick Jones and all else who was involved in the event.
Fantastic competition! It makes me want to get back on stage......maybe
2008? What are the chances of having more media coverage? I know Jaslyn
Hewitt got a mention on the news the other night.
Congratulations once again
Regards,
Scott Jamieson.
Editor: Hey Scott, hopefully we see you back on stage
next year. Jaslyn Hewitt gave natural bodybuilding and the INBA great
media exposure. While it just focusing on her, the media have expressed
interest to cover the show next year. Any positive exposure is better
than none.
